Dr. Andreani earned her Master’s degree in Biology and Animal Laboratory (BAL) in 2012 from the University of Padova. Following her PhD, Dr. Andreani conducted postdoctoral research at the University of Lincoln in the UK. From 2014, she has published 35 papers in recognised peer-reviewed journals (most of them are Q1 journals), with 657 citations and an h-index of 16.
She participated in 13 research projects, 9 of them as main researcher responsible for the project in three European countries: Germany, United States and Italy. She is Editor-in-Chief of the high-indexed Taylor and Francis Journal of Inflammation Research and a member of the organising committee of the Microbiome Virtual International Forum (MVIF).
In addition to her scientific research, she is passionate about science communication and education. She has authored illustrated books for children about microbiology, aiming to make complex scientific concepts accessible to younger audiences.Nadia Andrea Andreani is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Biology and Biotechnology “Charles Darwin” at Sapienza University of Rome. A biotechnologist by training, she has over a decade of experience in microbiological research, with expertise spanning medical and environmental microbiology.
Her current work focuses on the gut microbiome and its role in complex diseases such as anorexia nervosa and inflammatory bowel disease.

Lecture summary

The gut microbiome is increasingly recognised as a key player in host health and disease, yet its role in psychiatric and inflammatory conditions remains underexplored. In this talk, I will present recent findings on the microbial signatures and potential mechanisms linking the gut microbiota to anorexia nervosa and inflammatory bowel disease. Drawing on metagenomic and animal studies, I will explore how members of the microbiome may influence disease progression in Anorexia Nervosa. These insights pave the way for novel microbiome-informed interventions and deepen our understanding of host–microbe interactions in complex disorders.
