Faculty of Chemistry and Technology

The Faculty of Chemistry and Technology at the University of Split (FCT) was established in 1960 in response to the growing demand for chemical engineering professionals during the development of the chemical industry in Dalmatia. It is the oldest faculty of chemical technology in the Republic of Croatia outside the city of Zagreb.

Since its establishment, the Faculty has successfully educated approximately 2,500 professionals at all levels of higher education through its study programmes. Its graduates have made significant contributions to science and the fields of chemistry and chemical engineering. Throughout its history, the Faculty's study programmes have continuously evolved to meet the needs of society and technological progress. They have been founded on the Faculty's own scientific research and the latest scientific knowledge, with particular emphasis on addressing the needs of the chemical industry in Dalmatia. During the 1970s, in response to the growing scientific interest in environmental protection, the Faculty introduced a study track in Environmental Protection. Since then, environmental protection has remained an integral part of the Faculty's educational offerings. By the late 1990s, the significant decline of industrial production in Dalmatia prompted the Faculty to adapt its educational portfolio and introduce new study programmes.

In the 1997/1998 academic year, the Faculty introduced the study track Sea and Mediterranean Cultures, which was replaced in the 2004/2005 academic year by Chemistry and Technology of Mediterranean Cultures. This programme subsequently developed into the undergraduate programme Food Technology (introduced in the 2015/2016 academic year) and the graduate programme Food Technology (introduced in the 2018/2019 academic year). Since the 2005/2006 academic year, the Faculty has offered an undergraduate programme in Chemistry, followed by a graduate programme in Chemistry from the 2008/2009 academic year. In cooperation with the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Split, the Faculty launched a joint integrated undergraduate and graduate university programme in Pharmacy in the 2010/2011 academic year. Since the 2017/2018 academic year, the Faculty of Medicine has been the coordinating institution for this programme. Since the 2019/2020 academic year, in partnership with the Faculty of Chemical Engineering and Technology of the University of Zagreb, the Faculty has participated in the joint graduate university programme Chemical and Environmental Technology, delivered in English, with the Faculty of Chemical Engineering and Technology serving as the coordinating institution.

Through its educational, scientific, and professional activities over the past six decades, the Faculty has made a direct contribution to the development of the City of Split, the Dalmatian region, and Croatia as a whole. Today, the Faculty is recognized as a distinguished scientific and research institution. This reputation is reflected in the extensive collaborations of its academic staff with national and international research and higher education institutions, numerous prestigious national and international awards, publications in leading scientific journals, and active participation in the organization of scientific conferences.

University of Split

The University of Split is a medium-sized university within the European Union and sees its role as that of a leading regional university in this part of Europe, with a strong Mediterranean orientation. Student Dining Services

The Franjo Tuđman Student Residence Hall offers modern, high-quality accommodation in a comfortable and inspiring environment. The breathtaking views of the sea and nearby islands from the south-facing rooms add to the unique student living experience.

The residence provides accommodation in 273 double rooms and 51 single rooms for students, as well as five double apartments and two single apartments intended for visiting professors. Each accommodation unit is equipped with a private bathroom. In addition, six fully accessible rooms are available for students with disabilities.

Students have access to a well-equipped fitness centre, an indoor sports hall, and two outdoor sports courts, providing excellent opportunities for recreation and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. The residence also features three shared kitchenettes and ten common study and social rooms designed to encourage learning, collaboration, and social interaction. A multifunctional meeting hall is available for meetings, presentations, and various student activities.

For relaxation and socialising, students can enjoy the charmingly designed Tinel Café, located within the same building. Meals are served in the student restaurant, which features two self-service serving lines and a pastry shop, offering a wide selection of freshly prepared dishes and desserts.

To meet everyday needs, the residence building also houses a bank and a mini-market, while a spacious parking area provides convenient access for residents and visitors alike.

The residence's modern and comfortably furnished rooms offer an ideal environment for both study and relaxation. Their spacious design and welcoming atmosphere create a pleasant living experience that leaves a lasting impression.

Franjo Tuđman Student Residence Hall

Student dining services are provided through six restaurants operated by the Student Centre: the restaurants at the Faculty of Economics, Business and Tourism, the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture (FESB), and the Faculty of Civil Engineering, Architecture and Geodesy (FGAG), as well as the restaurant at the Spinut Hostel, the Indeks restaurant located in the city centre, and the Kantun C restaurant situated within the Faculty of Medicine.

Meals are served through self-service lines. Students may choose individual dishes from the menu or opt for the daily menu, which is offered at a more affordable price while providing a varied and balanced selection of meals. The daily menu includes meat and fish dishes accompanied by a choice of side dishes and fresh seasonal salads.

Dining services are also available at several smaller food outlets located in the Brune Bušić Student Residence Hall and at the Faculties of Law, Humanities and Social Sciences, Medicine, and Science. These outlets operate over-the-counter service and offer a selection of quick meals and food products, including pastries, sandwiches, burek, cakes, yoghurt, fruit juices, and other refreshments.

Located on the ground floor of the FESB building, Stop is one of the most popular student dining venues, particularly in the afternoon when freshly prepared pizzas are available. Students may also enjoy the snack bar located within the University Library, featuring a pleasant outdoor terrace where they can relax with a coffee or soft drink, enjoy a light meal, and browse the daily newspapers.

Modern and Comfortable Rooms

The modern, well-appointed rooms provide an ideal environment for both rest and study. Spacious interiors, contemporary furnishings, and a welcoming atmosphere ensure a comfortable stay and an enjoyable student living experience.

Sports Facilities on Campus

University sports at the University of Split are organized under the UNISPORT brand, one of the largest and most dynamic organized university sports systems in Croatia. Available to all students enrolled at Croatian higher education institutions, UNISPORT promotes participation, enjoyment, and the many benefits of sport. It provides students with opportunities to take part in organized competitions and recreational activities while also supporting the achievement of high-level athletic performance. By encouraging fair play, inclusion, and healthy lifestyles, UNISPORT upholds the fundamental values of sport and the principles of the Olympic Charter.

In cooperation with the Split University Sports Association and the University Sports Office, the Student Centre organizes more than 20 sports and recreational events each year for students of the University of Split. These include competitions in a wide range of sports, group fitness and recreational exercise programmes held in the fitness centre, sports hall, and outdoor facilities, as well as organized excursions.

Students have access to the Student Centre Fitness Centre (SC Fitness), an indoor sports hall, and outdoor football and basketball courts on the University Campus. Additional facilities include an artificial-turf football pitch and an outdoor concrete basketball court at the Spinut student residence.

The University also offers lectures and workshops covering various aspects of sport, physical activity, and healthy living. These activities encourage students to adopt active lifestyles while providing valuable theoretical knowledge and practical information on topics of particular interest to young people.
